Input for a New Sermon Series

Thanks for making your way to my blog. I am asking for input for a new series. I need ideas, illustrations, graphics, props or anything else that would help to make the sermons clearer, more memorable and useful. If you have heard of a particular pastor who has used similar verses and you can find me a link I would be grateful. Below is the "working outline" of the series.

The Gifts of the Spirit are Available Today

I came across an article some years ago stating that the gifts of the Holy Spirit had ceased to operate for around 1,900 years. You can imagine my surprise. So I formulated my response mentally and filed it away for future use. Well lo and behold I have come across this phenomenon again and it’s called Cessationism. This time I’ll put my thoughts down for your enrichment or perhaps your aggravation. I was intrigued by the title of the article, “7 Biblical Arguments for Cessationism.”   I expected a frenzy of scriptures and proof texting but sadly there was none. I will summarize their points and offer my counter to their arguments based on the principle of the witness of 2 or 3 scriptures. This should take a couple of days. Today I will issue my primary answer to these arguments and it will be based on Acts 2:17-21; 38-39. Retreat and Revival

I've been through a revival and a vacation since my last post. I have felt like I need a vacation to get over those two events! Which is the topic of today's post Retreat and Revival. These are concepts that need to go hand in hand. Like many in my profession I don't know when to take a vacation. Usually it is when my wife picks up the phone and makes the arrangements and tells me we are leaving town. Quite often I am on the verge of exhaustion which she can see but I can't. As believers we need to follow the example of Jesus in all things, this includes time off. Matthew 14:23 (NASB95) 23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.
