1. Human society organized and functioning apart from God.
2. Material objects or the things the world has to offer.
10. In the world
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you;

but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

28. A part of your salvation
In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation having believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,
29. The Spirit’s job
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
30. He is there for the duration
that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
31. Our down payment on a heavenly home
who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.
32. Finishing up with pure gold
Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
