what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

18. What we can have
Fellowship-koinōnia
Joint participation
Having a supernatural, Holy Spirit energized, first-hand knowledge of the Lord Jesus,
To be able to have a real, practical, actual and more intimate companionship with Him.

19. John was quite poetic
• Hebrew poetic style written in Greek
• Very personal
• Loving and caring
• Packed full of meaning

20. Familiar passage
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men
21. next
5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him… 9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him,
22. Next
and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father
23. Next
full of grace and truth….16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

24. Thumbnail
Jesus is the Word of God
He created everything
Eternal life is through belief
He wants you to be a child of God
Jesus is the source of God’s grace

25. How they came to believe
…but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and in believing you may have life in His name.
John 20:31

26. Something to do this week
 These people were converted by John’s teaching
 John wants to reinforce his teachings
 To fully understand please read John’s Gospel, his 3 letters and Revelations

27. Pastor’s heart
These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.

28. Want to make your pastor happy?
Obey your leaders and submit, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, this would be unprofitable for you.

29. Jesus said
This is the message we heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

30. Jesus came
• to reveal the Father (1:5)
• to give believers an example to follow (1:7)
• to die on sinful mankind’s behalf (1:7)

31. We heard from Him
God is light
morally pure (light)
no sin (no darkness)

32. Follow Christ
…if we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

33. Jesus makes us free
Salvation
Restored for relationship

34. Fellowship
With God
With Jesus
With each other

35. Simple test
If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

36. If we say
Not knowledge but relationship
Keep His words
Countering false teaching

37. Gnostics
Habitually sin
 Liar
 Not practicing the truth

38. Uhhh
If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

39. Sin is a human condition
 We have sinned
 We will sin
 Accept it

40. You cannot argue
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

41. Jesus said
Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

42. Commanded
Like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

43. You must stand before God
Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; My eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

44. The solution
[God] made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

45. Appropriate the cure
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
